2009-12-27 Elakala Falls is technically a series of four waterfalls; however, the first waterfall is the only one you can see from this trail and is 35 feet tall. Elakala is the 2nd most popular waterfall in the park, thus making this a really popular trail during warmer months. The lovely Elakala Falls are a series of four waterfalls of Shays Run as it descends into the Blackwater Canyon in West Virginia. They’re within Blackwater Falls State Park and are reasonably popular among photographers, with the ease of access for the first waterfall, and the relatively low traffic of the other waterfalls in the series. Elakala Falls is located near the lodge in Blackwater Falls State Park, West Virginia and is formed by Shay Run descending into the steep sided Blackwater River Gorge.
